Austrian Preview - The Red Bull Ring

Red Bulls Track But Will It Be Their Race

We are now onto Austria. In recent years this has been most definitely a one horse race but with recent upgrade packages, we may see a big improvement across the field. Lets hope for some close racing. One thing I do really like about the Red Bull Ring is lots of gravel!

Sector Breakdown

The Austrian GP - Red Bull Ring Race Track

Sector 1

Off the starting line we have a short run to the first corner. The drivers will need to be careful of the raised curb on the left-hand side. It could be very easily done to get floor damage if they overrun. After this is the first DRS zone. This begins the longest straight and approaches the tightest corner on the track corner three sector.

Sector one is very short however the whole sector is on an incline. This take a bit of pressure off the breaks however more demanding for the engine.

Sector 2

Sector two starts with a very tight corner (corner three). A few years back we might of seen Vettle and Leclerc crash into each other on this corner, Whoops! On the first lap, corner three will be hectic.

We now then head down the second DRS zone. This track has three DRS zones and to be honest I don’t think it deserves it. The 2026 regulations will make this track more interesting. This marks overtaking opportunity for many cars either on the straight or down into corner 4.

The last part of sector two the driver is required to chain the next few corner together at high speed. Corner six is a corner that needs to be finessed. The driver will need to be careful for the gravel on the right hand side, this is because the fastest line uses the curb and this makes it very easy to dip the tire into the gravel.

Sector 3

Sector three starts with a medium fast left hand at corner seven. It is tighter than it looks, however you can carry it in with high revs on 5 or lift and stay in 6th. I would carry in on 5th and exit in 6th.

Once seven and eight are over it’s a small straight into the last two corners corners. You can carry a lot of speed into them, however, and especially in qualifying you don’t want to use too much curb as it will be very easy to go over the white line and have a lap deleted.

In to corner 10 you wanna dip your right side slightly over the curb to hit the faster line leading into the last DRS for the Home straight.
