British GP Preview - Silverstone Awaits!

Can Brit Be On The Top Step Of The Podium PLEASE!

It is coming home!! We are back at Silverstone. Personally I think it is one of the most complete tracks on the calendar with both high and low speed corners. It is a pretty long track at 5.89km (3.66 miles). It is one one those tracks that also has named all the corners so I will try my best to get them all correct. Lets take a look.

Sector Breakdown

The British GP - Silverstone Race Track

Sector 1

Sector 1 kicks off Silverstone in style, like the drum solo in a rock concert. The excitement begins at Abbey (Corner 1), a high-speed kink that drivers take flat out. As they continue into Farm Curve (Turn 2) a slight left still pedal to the metal. Then, they slam on the brakes for Village (Turn 3), a right-hand where overtakes can get as snug as a wrestling match in a phone booth. Next, The Loop (Turn 4), a tight left-hander, drivers need to make sure they are not to eager to hit the throttle as this lead into the set up for a sprint onto Wellington Straight. Aintree (Turn 5) is a medium-speed left kink, making sure drivers get a clean exit as they hit Wellington Straight, ready to unleash their inner speed demon. If Sector 1 had a motto, it’d be "Survive and thrive!"

Sector 2

Entering Sector 2, first, Brooklands (Turn 6), a left-hander where precise braking is crucial and overtakes are as bold as cutting in line at the bar. Then, it’s into Luffield (Turn 7), a long, patience-testing right-hander that’s all about maintaining momentum, Must be aware of the gravel on the outside of the curb as the faster line requires you to use the curbs. Woodcote (Turn 8), a medium-speed right-hand bend, flings the drivers onto the National Pits Straight, catching a breath before diving into Copse (Turn 9). At Copse, they navigate a right-hand corner flat out, like threading a needle at 200 mph. In the 2021 season you may remember VER and HAM coming together here. The highlight of Sector 2 is the Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel complex (Turns 10-14), a high-speed ballet through left-right-left-right twists, where drivers juggle speed and precision like a magician with flaming torches. It is here when lot of time can be gain or lost. The driver will need to ensure the enter turn 10 on the right line otherwise the corners after will come with difficulty. Finally, it’s a headlong rush down Hangar Straight with DRS, as drivers gear up for more thrills ahead.

Sector 3

Sector 3 is where Silverstone’s final challenges come fast and furious, much like the last lap scramble in a Mario Kart game. Blue shell incoming! The drama begins at Stowe (Turn 15), a high-speed right-hander that demands nerves of steel as drivers brake from Hangar Straight's warp speeds. Then it’s a plunge into Vale (Turn 16), where the tight left-hand turn can feel like a sudden dodge to avoid a rogue shopping cart in a parking lot. Navigating the right-left combo of Club (Turns 17 & 18), drivers must avoid spinning out in the grand finale, aiming for a smooth run to the start/finish straight. It’s all about keeping cool and finding that perfect exit to flash across the line, ready to do it all over again.
